Press Release

CPI Strongly Condemns the Kidnapping of Greta and Her Companions by Israeli Forces

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued today (June 9, 2025) the following statement:

The Communist Party of India strongly condemns the shocking and outrageous act of kidnapping climate activist Greta Thunberg and her companions by the Israeli army while they were on a humanitarian mission to Gaza to deliver relief materials to the suffering Palestinian people.

Greta and her fellow activists represent the voice of conscience of the global youth and civil society, standing against war, occupation, and climate destruction. Their mission to deliver aid to the starving, bombed, and besieged people of Gaza is a courageous act of international solidarity. The brutal response of the Israeli state is not just an attack on them, but an attack on all who speak out for peace, justice, and human dignity.

The CPI demands the immediate and unconditional release of Greta and all those detained with her.

The CPI reiterates its firm solidarity with the Palestinian people in their heroic struggle against Zionist occupation and imperialist aggression. We call upon all democratic forces in India and across the world to intensify protests and demand accountability for Israeli war crimes.
