Statement of the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia
On the Occasion of July 4 – Fighter’s Day
Dear comrades,
On this day, July 4, we solemnly commemorate Fighter’s Day, marking the anniversary of the historic decision made by the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (CPY) in 1941 to launch the armed uprising against fascism and all its collaborators, in the name of the freedom and liberation of the peoples of Yugoslavia.
This decisive act by the CPY represented the beginning of one of the most glorious chapters in the history of the revolutionary and anti-fascist struggle in our region. Under the leadership of the Communist Party, the multinational working masses, youth, and progressive intelligentsia took up arms and organized a heroic and self-sacrificing people’s liberation war. That struggle culminated in the military and political defeat of fascist occupiers and domestic traitors, and in the revolutionary transformation of Yugoslavia into a federal socialist republic based on brotherhood, equality, and workers’ power.
The legacy of the July 4 decision is not just a historical event — it is a continuing call to resist all forms of oppression, imperialism, nationalism, and historical revisionism. At a time when the values of anti-fascism are under threat and attempts to rehabilitate fascist collaborators are growing in the former Yugoslav republics and beyond, the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NKPJ) stands firm in defense of the truth of the people's struggle and in loyalty to the ideals of proletarian internationalism and socialism.
We honor the memory of the fighters of the People’s Liberation War, and we commit ourselves to continue their mission - the struggle for a freedom and socialism.
Long live the legacy of July 4!
Glory to the fallen heroes!
Down with fascism – freedom to the people!
