End the genocide! Solidarity with Palestine!

Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people have reached unprecedented proportions, amounting to a real genocide in the Gaza Strip, with hundreds of people killed by Israeli bombings and continuous military attacks, the blockade on the entry of drinking water, food, medicines and other essential goods, the use of hunger as a form of aggression against the population, the systematic and complete destruction of homes, hospitals and other basic infrastructure, the proclaimed purpose to militarily occupy the entire territory and expel the Palestinian people from their land, Palestine.

It is unacceptable that after 20 months, Zionist crimes continue with impunity. It is important to remember that it was Israel that resumed the path of war on March 18, putting an end to the ceasefire that had been agreed and which was enabling the release of detainees by both sides.

The shameful and hypocritical indifference of the US, the EU and NATO to Israeli atrocities is glaring. Not only do they fail to condemn them strongly and clearly, but on the contrary, they sell arms, provide funding, continue normal trade relations, provide political cover for Israel and are complicit in its heinous crimes.

Israel's aggression against the Palestinian people is the greatest crime of our time.

The scale of the barbarity, the heroic resistance of the Palestinian people and the pressure of the international solidarity movement are causing discomfort for the governments of the major Western powers, which nevertheless refuse to implement the decisions and actions that are needed.

There is an urgent need for immediate and firm actions to put an end to the massacres and military actions without further delay, ensuring the urgent and unrestricted entry of basic necessities and medical aid, implementing a permanent ceasefire, as well as the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip and an end to their attacks in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

There is an urgent need to solve the underlying issue by creating the State of Palestine, which was determined by the UN decades ago but never materialised due to Israel's policy of occupation, colonisation and aggression, with the support of the US and its allies. An independent State of Palestine, where the Palestinian people can sovereignly decide their fate.

It is urgent that the Portuguese government puts an end to its complicit silence in the face of Israel's brutal disregard for human rights and international law, and that it firmly and clearly condemns Israel's criminal policy of occupation, colonisation and aggression, demands an immediate end to the genocide and compliance with the national rights of the Palestinian people, with the creation of the State of Palestine and respect for the right of return of Palestinian refugees, as determined by UN resolutions.

The PCP calls on the workers, the youth and the Portuguese people to strengthen their solidarity with the heroic resistance of the Palestinian people and to take part in the actions called by the peace and solidarity movement – solidarity with Palestine is more necessary than ever!

Os crimes de Israel contra o povo palestiniano atingem proporções inauditas, que configuram um autêntico genocídio na Faixa de Gaza, com centenas de pessoas mortas pelos bombardeamentos e os constantes ataques militares israelitas, o bloqueio à entrada de água potável, alimentos, medicamentos e outros bens essenciais, o uso da fome como forma de agressão contra a população, a sistemática e total destruição de habitações, de hospitais e de outras infraestruturas básicas, a proclamada intenção de ocupar militarmente todo o território e de expulsar o povo palestiniano da sua terra, a Palestina.

É intolerável que ao fim de 20 meses prossigam impunemente os crimes sionistas. Urge recordar que foi Israel que em 18 de Março retomou a via da guerra, pondo fim ao cessar fogo que havia sido acordado e que estava a permitir a libertação dos detidos por ambas as partes.

É gritante a vergonhosa e hipócrita indiferença por parte dos EUA, da UE e da NATO, perante as atrocidades israelitas, que para além de não as condenarem de forma contundente e clara, pelo contrário vendem armas, atribuem financiamentos, prosseguem normais relações comerciais, dão cobertura política a Israel, sendo cúmplices dos seus monstruosos crimes.

A agressão de Israel contra o povo palestiniano configura o maior crime do nosso tempo.

A dimensão da barbárie, a heróica resistência do povo palestiniano, a pressão do movimento de solidariedade internacional, suscitam incómodos aos governos das grandes potências ocidentais que, no entanto, se recusam a implementar as decisões e acções que se impõem.

São urgentes acções imediatas e firmes que ponham fim, sem mais demoras, aos massacres e às acções militares, assegurando a entrada urgente e sem restrições de bens de primeira necessidade e de auxílio médico, implementando um cessar-fogo permanente, assim como a total retirada das forças israelitas da Faixa de Gaza e o fim dos seus ataques na Cisjordânia e em Jerusalém Leste.

É urgente que se solucione a questão de fundo, criando o Estado da Palestina, determinado pela ONU há décadas, mas nunca concretizado dada a política de ocupação, colonização e agressão por parte de Israel, com o apoio dos EUA e seus aliados. Um Estado da Palestina independente, onde seja o povo palestiniano a decidir soberanamente do seu destino.

É urgente que o Governo português ponha fim ao seu silêncio cúmplice perante o brutal desrespeito dos direitos humanos e do direito internacional por parte de Israel, e que de forma firme e clara condene a criminosa política de ocupação, colonização e agressão israelita, exija o fim imediato do genocídio e o cumprimento dos direitos nacionais do povo palestiniano, com a criação do Estado da Palestina e o respeito do direito de regresso dos refugiados palestinianos conforme determinam as resoluções da ONU.

O PCP apela aos trabalhadores, aos jovens, ao povo português, a que reforcem a solidariedade com a heróica resistência do povo palestiniano, e participem nas acções convocadas pelo movimento da paz e de solidariedade – a solidariedade com a Palestina é mais necessária que nunca!
