The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement congratulating the Indian working class on its two-day all India strike:

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India congratulates the working class and the ten central trade unions on their success in making the two-day all India strike a grand success. The Party notes that the success was in fact a big blow to the anti-people and anti-worker policies of the RSS-controlled BJP government led by Narendra Modi. Over 20 crore workers and employees have taken part in the strike.

The Trade Unions have been demanding concrete measures for curbing rising prices of essential commodities, creation of new jobs, minimum wages of Rs.18,000/- p.m. and minimum Rs.6,000/- p.m. pension to all, stoppage of all moves to sell PSU shares and outright privatization through various routes like outsourcing and public private participation etc, universal social security coverage to all among other demands, scrapping of NPS and restoration of earlier pension scheme for government servants.

Narendra Modi government must read the writing on the wall which speaks of stiff opposition to his government’s neo-liberal policies from employees and workers from all sectors including banking, finance, defence, etc. The Party wants the government to desist from going ahead further with its anti-worker neo-liberal economic policies.

CPI demands that the just demands of the working class should be conceded by the government and restore industrial peace.
