Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja issued the following statement today (on June 16, 2020) demanding de-escalation of tension on the borders to ensure peace in the region:

The Communist Party of India expresses its shock and concern over the escalation of tension and the ongoing stand-off between India and China which led to clashes and casualties at Galwan Valley, resulting in the death of one commanding officer and two jawans of the Indian Army.

While saluting the jawans the CPI points out that clash happened when the talks are going on at military and diplomatic levels for “disengaging” in a phased manner on the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh and Sikkim.

The CPI believes that the issue of present standoff can be resolved through talks and established frame-works agreed by both the countries. We feel that both the sides have to intensify their efforts keeping in mind their core interest to achieve mutually acceptable solution to the India-China boundary question as soon as possible. Any military confrontation between the two major Asian countries not only impact the cooperation and friendship between the two countries but also can jeopardize the peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

The CPI calls upon the governments of both the countries to take appropriate steps for easing the situation and guaranteeing the peace and security along the border.
