CPI Opposes WAQF Legislation and Call for Protest on April 12, 2025

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued today (April 10, 2025) the following statement:

The Communist Party of India condemns the Government of India and ruling BJP for road rolling WAQF Act in both houses of Parliament, without considering any amendments given by opposition, in the mid-night hours.

BJP rule is to target minorities, particularly Muslims and divide Indian nation on religious basis is very clear and present attempt by the BJP and Government of India is to further this anti-minority politics of divide and rule.

It is also an attempt to grab the land to help big monopolies.

All claims made by BJP speakers during the debate that the money of WAQF Board will be used for upliftment of Minority are bogus as it has already stopped scholarships under Maulana Azad Scholarship Schemes which were given to Minority students.

Now after bull dozing the WAQF Act in the Parliament one should not be surprised if similar attempt to target Church and Christian Minorities institutions properties is made.

CPI warns against this attempt to target the minorities which will affect unity of the nation and is against the constitutional provisions guaranteeing religious freedom to all.

The recent attempt by the UP administration to give notices to three hundred Muslims who protested peacefully against proposed WAQF Act by putting black strips is nothing but an attempt to terrorise Minorities. CPI demands immediate withdrawal of these notices.

The Communist Party of India appeals to all its units to observe April 12, 2025 as a protest day against this unconstitutional WAQF Act.
