Withdraw the UGC Regulations 2025
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued today (January 14, 2025) the following statement:
The Communist Party of India takes strong exception of the recently introduced UGC Regulations 2025, which are a blatant assault on the federal structure of our country and an overreach of the Union government into the domain of state governments. These regulations are an undemocratic imposition, undermining the autonomy of state universities and educational institutions, and centralizing control over curricula, faculty appointments and institutional governance.
This move is a clear attempt by the RSS-BJP regime to extend its ideological grip over the entire education sector, forcing a monolithic, top-down system that disregards the diverse needs and regional contexts of our educational institutions. By curbing the autonomy of universities and infringing upon the rights of state governments to decide their own educational priorities, the union government is further eroding the pluralistic, inclusive nature of India's education system.
The Communist Party of India calls for the immediate rollback of these regulations and demands that the rights of states and educational institutions be respected. We stand for a decentralised, democratic and pluralistic education system that is free from interference and aligns with the diverse needs of our students and society.
