‘Nowhere to run’: UN report says global warming nears limits

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report released on Monday, Aug. 9, 2021 lays out the stark reality of what each and every one of us need to think about and, more importantly, act to to save ourselves and our planet.

Capitalism has brought our planet to this critical point in human history with its destructive impact on the global environment.

The persuit of profits and capital accumulation is destroying our planet and driving us towards climate abyss.

The report lays out the stark reality of accelerating sea level rise, shrinking ice and worsening extremes such as heat waves, droughts, floods and storms. 

In less than a decade temperatures will pass the level of warming that leaders of major capitalist economies claimed they were trying to prevent.

The UN Report has called the situation a “code red for humanity.”

The report, using clear scientific evidence, makes clear that it is human action and activity that is causing this catastrophic damage to the global environment.

Capitalism is driven by the necessity to profit and  accumulate capital by any means necessary. The persuit of that profit has seen vast quantities of the world's resources squandered, commodity production of surpurflous goods that we don't need nor can we afford, inbuilt obselessance, wars of conquest and oppression.

Capital exists on the basis of permanent growth. It is a system that if not growing, is contracting and spiriling into recession. 

The central contradiction of capitalism is that you cannot have permanent growth and endless consumption of finite natural resources.

It has turned our seas, oceans and rivers into toxic sewers. It has turned people against each other in mindless competition for the accumulation of possesions and fickle lifestyles. 

We simply cannot afford capitalism if we and the planet are to survive.  Our planet can no longer afford capitalism. We have reached the point of socialism or barbarism.
