Friends of Swazi Freedom Launches #HandsOffCPS Campaign

UNITED STATES — Friends of Swazi Freedom is launching a campaign to build international awareness of the state repression of the national democratic movement in Swaziland, led by the Communist Party of Swaziland. King Mswati III has unleashed a wave of detentions, kidnappings, and state terror against pro-democracy activists.

Over 100 EmaSwati have been killed in demonstrations against the King’s absolute rule. We are calling on all progressives, revolutionaries, anti-colonialists, and anti-imperialists to join us in pursuing the following commitments:

Our Commitments

  1. Uplift and amplify the voices of the Swazi revolution, including the CPS, SNUS, and their allies in the national-democratic movement;
  2. Participate in a campaign to politically and economically isolate the king’s regime, including directed boycotts and statements of solidarity;
  3. Support political prisoners held by the regime, including Comrade Bongo and Comrade Amos Mbedzi, a former uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) guerrilla and member of the African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Communist Party (SACP);
  4. Stand with the Swazi people until true democracy and people’s rights are recognized through a democratic transition and multi-party elections.

About Friends of Swazi Freedom

We, the Friends of Swazi Freedom (FSF), a solidarity organization based in the United States but cooperating with international affiliates, unite to advocate for democracy and social justice in Swaziland.

We believe in people’s rights, which includes the struggle for the advancement of human rights and economic justice in Swaziland. This struggle is a part of the people’s movement for genuine democracy, national sovereignty, and social justice in Swaziland.

We acknowledge that the reason for the Swazi people’s suffering is the current neocolonial and oppressive nature of Swazi society held up by imperialism, feudalism, and capitalism. As the Swazi people continue to struggle for their fundamental rights and freedoms, we commit ourselves to support their National Democratic Revolution through the course of the struggle against the Mswati autocracy and beyond.
