Statement by the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia on the Occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Breakout from the Jasenovac Death Camp
Eighty years have passed since the heroic breakout of the prisoners from the Jasenovac concentration camp, the largest death camp on the territory of occupied Yugoslavia during the Second World War. Jasenovac, established and operated by the fascist Ustaša regime of the so-called Independent State of Croatia (NDH), became a symbol of the most monstrous crimes committed against humanity.
In this horrific camp, approximately 700,000 Serbs, Roma, Jews, and members of other peoples lost their lives. Among them were also many communists, who bravely resisted fascist terror and oppression. The NDH regime, infamous for its cruelty, even established special camps for children, where countless young lives were brutally extinguished.
Jasenovac is a permanent reminder of the atrocities committed in the name of hatred and fascist ideology.
The crimes of Jasenovac lay bare the catastrophic consequences of fascism, nationalism, and hatred. Its victims, slaughtered in ways too gruesome to fathom, remind us of humanity’s capacity for cruelty—and the urgent need to confront such ideologies. The victims demand our eternal memory and respect. Their suffering must never be forgotten, nor allowed to happen again.
As fascist forces resurge globally, we honor the fallen by relentlessly combating historical revisionism, xenophobia, and all forms of oppression. Let the memory of Jasenovac’s martyrs fuel our struggle for a world rooted in solidarity, equality, and peace.
The New Communist Party of Yugoslavia calls on all progressive forces to preserve the memory of Jasenovac and to oppose any attempts at historical revisionism, fascism, and nationalism. Only through remembrance and vigilance can we ensure that such horrors are never repeated.
Honor and glory to the victims of Jasenovac!
Never forget — never again!
