Statement of the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia 

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism, the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NKPJ) and the League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) have organized commemorative events in more than forty cities and towns across Serbia.

We pay our deepest respects to the generations of Partisan fighters who, in their heroic struggle during the 1941–1945 resistance to occupation, laid down their lives to liberate Yugoslavia and to build a new socialist country. Over one million and 700 000 Yugoslav citizens — including some 800,000 civilians — perished in the fighting and in the brutal concentration camps established by the occupiers; tens of thousands gave their lives at Jasenovac, Banjica, and elsewhere.

We also honor the indispensable, brotherly assistance provided by the Soviet Red Army, whose advance in 1944 helped to break the back of fascist forces and secure final liberation for the peoples of Yugoslavia.

Despite decades of historical revisionism and attempts to suppress the truth, the memory of our liberators — the valiant Partisans and their Red Army comrades — lives on, and will continue to inspire future generations in the struggle for peace, social justice, and genuine international solidarity.

Eternal glory to the heroes of the anti-fascist struggle!
Long live the memory of our Partisan and Red Army liberators!
May their sacrifice never be forgotten!
