Declaration of the NCPN on the developments in Turkey

International Commission of the CC of the NCPN

The New Communist Party of the Netherlands (NCPN) strongly condemns the recent arrest of the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, the repression of, and violence against the large-scale demonstrations against the repressive AKP government, and the recent arrest of our comrades from the Turkish Communist Party (TKP).

These arrests are a direct attack on the democratic rights of the Turkish people and on all those who fight for a better future for the Turkish people. The capitalist AKP government, which is taking increasingly harsh action against the people, is trying to crush any form of resistance through oppression, arrests and violence. Meanwhile, the EU, NATO and the US are working closely with Erdoğan’s AKP government to safeguard their interests in the region.

We declare our full solidarity with the TKP and all political prisoners who are being detained because of their struggle against the growing repression. The working class and progressive forces in Turkey will not allow themselves to be intimidated by repression.

The NCPN calls for the immediate release of those arrested and supports the struggle of the Turkish labour movement and communists against the capitalist and authoritarian rule of the AKP.

Solidarity with the TKP! Freedom for all political prisoners!
