Solidarity with the struggling people in Swaziland and their Communist Party

Resolution passed at the 5th Party Congress of the Party of Labour of Austria

Since 1973, the landlocked South African state of Swaziland has been ruled by a reactionary, absolutist monarchy which has kept the working class and the popular strata in extreme poverty, economic underdevelopment and exploitation for decades. Swaziland is one of the poorest states in the world, with more than 80 percent of the people earning less than two US dollars a day, while the ruling clique appropriates much of the wealth produced on the backs of the working class. Currently, the capitalist regime of King Mswati III, backed by the South African bourgeoisie, rules on the basis of a constitutional state of emergency, whereby labour and social rights, democratic rights such as free elections, trade unions and parties have been banned and, above all, progressive media are censored. In recent years, the impoverished masses have escalated social and political struggles. In addition to the working class, the organised student movement, women and unemployed youth are also taking part in the militant confrontations with the regime.

Communists in particular are being politically persecuted. The Communist Party of Swaziland has been working underground since its founding in 2011, fighting in a democratic united front with progressive forces for the overthrow of the absolutist monarchy and for bourgeois democratic rights. Its cadres have been arrested and driven into exile in the fighting that has claimed more than 100 lives amid the pandemic. The Communist Party of Swaziland, as a Marxist-Leninist party, upholds the need to link and continue this struggle with the perspective for the genuine liberation of the people and the working class, for socialism.

The Party of Labour of Austria stands in solidarity with the people of Swaziland and the Communist Party of Swaziland in their justified struggle for peace, democracy and socialism. The Party of Austrian Labour demands an end to the persecution and repression against the organised labour movement and the Communist Party of Swaziland and the release of all members of the KPS who have been imprisoned and abducted by the police.

Seit 1973 herrscht im südafrikanischen Binnenstaat Swasiland eine reaktionäre, absolutistische Monarchie, welche seit Jahrzehnten die Arbeiterklasse und andere Volksschichten in extremer Armut, ökonomischer Unterentwicklung und Ausbeutung hält. Swasiland zählt weltweit zu den ärmsten Staaten, da mehr als 80 Prozent des Volkes weniger als zwei US-Dollar pro Tag verdienen, während sich die herrschende Clique einen Großteil des produzierten Reichtums auf dem Rücken der Arbeiterklasse aneignet. Aktuell herrscht das kapitalistische Regime von König Mswati III., gestützt durch die südafrikanische Bourgeoisie, auf Basis eines verfassungsmäßigen Ausnahmezustands, wodurch Arbeits- und Sozialrechte, demokratische Rechte wie freie Wahlen, Gewerkschaften und Parteien verboten worden sind und vor allem fortschrittliche Medien zensiert werden. In den letzten Jahren eskalieren die verarmten Massen die sozialen und politischen Kämpfe. Neben der Arbeiterklasse beteiligen sich auch die organisierte Studierendenbewegung, Frauen und arbeitslose Jugendliche an den militanten Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Regime.

Insbesondere die Kommunistinnen und Kommunisten werden politisch verfolgt. Die Kommunistische Partei Swasilands arbeitet seit ihrer Gründung 2011 im Untergrund und kämpft in einer demokratischen Einheitsfront mit fortschrittlichen Kräften für den Sturz der absolutistischen Monarchie und für bürgerlich-demokratische Rechte. Ihre Kader wurden in den Kämpfen, welche inmitten der Pandemie mehr als 100 Tote gefordert haben, verhaftet und ins Exil vertrieben. Die Kommunistische Partei Swasilands hält als marxistisch-leninistische Partei die Notwendigkeit hoch, diesen Kampf mit der Perspektive für die echte Befreiung des Volkes und der Arbeiterklasse, für den Sozialismus, zu verbinden und fortzuführen.

Die Partei der Arbeit Österreichs solidarisiert sich mit dem eswatinischen Volk und der Kommunistischen Partei Swasilands in ihrem gerechtfertigten Kampf für Frieden, Demokratie und Sozialismus. Die Partei der Arbeit Österreichs fordert ein Ende der Verfolgung und Repression gegen die organisierte Arbeiterbewegung und die Kommunistische Partei Swasiland und die Freilassung aller inhaftierten und von der Polizei entführten Mitglieder der KPS.
