WP of Ireland, Short Statement on the Earthquake in Syria & Turkey

The Workers’ Party of Ireland sends its sympathies to the Syrian and Turkish people following the devastating earthquake which killed over ten thousand and injured many more.
The impact of destroyed infrastructure will be felt for some time to come. Further, the debilitating effect of western sanctions on Syria retards efforts to give short term aid as well as long-term development. Accordingly we call for the immediate lifting of all such sanctions.
The Cork branch of the Workers' Party will be donating €200 to the Turkish Communist Party to aid their relief efforts.
