Communist Party of Swaziland on Mswati’s name change for the country: We see through your stupid antics, Mswati [En]

The Communist Party of Swaziland notes that the dictator Mswati has resorted to populist nationalism by declaring a name change for our country – from Swaziland to eSwatini.

The Communist Party of Swaziland believes that such a move is, in the current situation of rapacious exploitation of our country and people by Mswati and the royal elite, nothing but a distraction. It is designed to detract from criticism of the massive squandering of public funds to celebrate the king’s birthday and our country’s national day.

By appealing to some atavistic, quasi-nationalist sentiment in the name of upholding Swaziland’s true pre-colonial identity, Mswati is simply hoping to boost his popularity. We have to ask, why come up with this name change now – when criticism and negative views of the king and the autocracy are gaining more ground at home and beyond?

The message of the Communist Party of Swaziland to Mswati is: we see through your stupid antics; we see you and your brutal, philistine behaviour, and history will be devastatingly harsh on you.

The only name change that would have any meaning for Swazi communists, progressives and all the oppressed people of Swaziland is one that would have the word Democratic Republic” in it. And that day is fast approaching!
