REVOLUTION versus “REVOLUTION”

How should communists counter imperialist aggression?

-a Turkish experience-

Dear members of the Communist Party of Greece, dear leading militants of the Greek working class who are hosting this meeting...

This year the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties is taking place under very different circumstances in comparison to the previous years. What we are going through in these days are not surprising to one who has a Marxist-Leninist standpoint and who evaluates the developments through the prism of socialist ideology. However, we can conclude that, since last year, the history has started flowing faster, the crisis are getting deeper both economically, politically and ideologically, the counter-revolutionary attacks have been stronger, but nevertheless revolutionary opportunities have become more obvious. Since last year, the competition between the imperialists has started going beyond manageable dimensions and it has become an ever-growing struggle between them, and finally the threat of moving from regional clashes towards a large-scale war has become stronger.

All that is happening is no doubt dangerous for the working class and in general for the humanity. However, what we are going through is the imperialist-capitalist system itself and the socialist revolution will indeed take place on this factual foundation. Sooner or later…

We may be afraid that the working class will be forced to pay the bill of capitalist crisis, we may be afraid of the barbarous practices of warmongers and of the destruction that will be caused by a new imperialist war. We may fear that fascism, under new forms, may launch another intimidation campaign to suppress the communists, revolutionaries and progressive masses. Yet, fear is not a solution. In order to avoid all these possibilities, let us develop new, steadfast, principled and brave policies.

And actually, we shall be afraid of some other things; of betrayal, to be made a fool and playing into the hand of our class enemies.

Let us, once and for all, relieve our communist family from the habit of condoning and living with historical mistakes.

As you will remember, in the beginning of 1990s while Europe was shaken by the demise of socialist countries, some of the ‘left’ forces affirmed the counter-revolution, and even attributed a revolutionary character to it. This approach had also penetrated into the communist movement and, if we may say so, led to a complete loss of sense.

We experienced similar disturbances during the attacks against Yugoslavia. During the imperialist intervention in Iraq, there were some parties belonging to “our tradition” which were fascinated by the concept of ‘fight against terrorism’.

We are also aware of the existence of those who insist not to accept that the European Union is the means of attack, exploitation and competition of a few leading imperialist countries…

We shall not think that the consequences of wrong apprehensions and attitudes on the developments in the Middle East in the last years are less severe.

Imperialism has been successful in circumventing the progressive camp by using the bait of the so-called Arab Spring.

Dear comrades

The Turkish Communist Party has asserted since 2002, when the Justice and Development Party (AKP) came to power, that this party pursued a very special mission. We claimed that this party is one of the executive powers of a comprehensive operation imposed on Turkey and the region by the United States.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the ‘left’ forces in Turkey raised the claim that the AKP will purge the counter-guerilla and achieve progress in terms of democratization. According to them, the Kurdish problem has been in the process of resolution and the attitude of Communist Party of Turkey towards the ruling party was nothing but nationalism. With the help of pseudo-leftists who constantly use the jargon of the bourgeoisie in order to blame the communists, the public was deceived by presenting this reactionary, pro-American attack on the working class as a movement of demilitarization.

On many occasions, we have also seen that our folks abroad were also mistaken about the real purpose of the AKP and we have constantly tried to explain this. We have insistently told those who claim that the AKP broke off the axis of the US, started to support the Arab people and approach to the progressive political powers of Latin America that, this party is a Trojan horse. Our party’s open letter to Venezuelan President Chavez this year is only one example of our attempts to explain this.

Only two and half years ago in our Congress in Istanbul, in which many representatives from fraternal parties participated, when we declared that Turkey has been transforming into the “New Ottoman” period, some of our friends said that we were exaggerating the issue.

Yet, the precursor of the immense imperialist attack which is called as the Arab Spring today was being performed with different tools in Turkey back then, and as an internationalist, patriotic and revolutionary party, the TKP was trying to prevent Turkey to take the pro-American role to be played in the Middle East and Africa. We were trying to warn the working masses and of course our friends.

Communist Party of Turkey failed to stop the Turkish counterpart of this operation; it got little vote in the general elections that took place during this summer. We are not going to abandon ourselves to despair because we could not stop an international operation pursued with enormous economic and political resources in a period when laboring classes are extremely weak. We maintained our dignity; we have been the only force that resisted the process from the beginning. And now, under the retrogressive conditions of the new regime, the Second Republic as we call it, we are working energetically to gather the working class and the youth under the flag of socialism.

Dear Comrades,

I am not talking here to praise our party, the TKP. I am trying to emphasize that communists shoul be well prepared to what imperialists are doing, avoid mistakes and break with who insist to follow a very dangerous line.

The process I mentioned has moved to Arab countries for a while. The TKP, although it respects just struggles of Arab workers, has openly declared since the beginning that international capital is implementing a bloody plan in the region. It warned its friends and the public about the fact that the developments in Middle East and North Africa are in no way revolutionary. Unfortunately, there were people among leftists who consciously or unconsciously supported the imperialist operations. In my country, a party which claims to be revolutionary was comparing the so-called Arab revolutions within and was even claiming that the movement in Libya was more revolutionary because of its practice of armed struggle.

These are deadly illusions and unfortunately the examples of them were not seen only in Turkey.

These illusions could be the consequences of departing from the perspective of socialism, not being able to break off from liberalism, not giving necessary importance to the ideological principles; they might be the results of the preferences made historically out of the communist tradition as well.

In many countries of the world, as we see here in the example of the rising class struggle under the leadership of the steadfast Communist Party of Greece, in a period when the oppressed started to move and provide evidences that they will not be intimidated anymore, we need a communist tradition that takes a consistent stand against bourgeois governments, imperialist plans and reactionary ideologies.

Rivoluzione contro "Rivoluzione"
In che modo i comunisti devono contrastare l'aggressione imperialista? L'esperienza turca
Cari compagni,
Cortesi membri del Partito Comunista di Grecia e generosi militanti alla testa della classe operaia greca che ci ospitate in quest'incontro...
Quest'anno, l'Incontro Internazionale dei Partiti Comunisti e Operai si svolge in circostanze molto diverse rispetto agli anni precedenti. Quanto stiamo vivendo in questi tempi non deve sorprendere chi guarda da un punto di vista marxista-leninista ed esamina le trasformazioni attraverso la lente dell'ideologia socialista. Ciò nonostante, possiamo dire che dallo scorso anno la storia ha iniziato a scorrere più velocemente, le crisi si fanno sempre più profonde, sia economicamente sia politicamente che ideologicamente, gli attacchi contro-rivoluzionari sono divenuti più forti, ma le possibilità rivoluzionarie si sono lo stesso rese più evidenti. Dallo scorso anno, la competizione tra gli imperialisti ha iniziato a superare le dimensioni gestibili, sfociando in una lotta sempre più aspra, con la minaccia concreta di passare dagli scontri regionali a una guerra su larga scala.
Tutto quanto sta accadendo è senza dubbio pericoloso per la classe operaia e in generale per l'umanità. Però, quello che stiamo sperimentando è appunto il sistema imperialista-capitalista e, difatti, la rivoluzione socialista si svilupperà su questa base di fatto. Presto o tardi...
Possiamo temere che la classe operaia sia costretta a pagare il conto della crisi capitalista, possiamo avere paura delle pratiche barbare dei guerrafondai e della distruzione causata da una nuova guerra imperialista. Possiamo temere che il fascismo, sotto nuove spoglie, possa avviare un'altra campagna d'intimidazione per reprimere i comunisti, i rivoluzionari e le masse progressiste. La paura, tuttavia, non è una soluzione. Al fine di evitare tutte queste possibilità, cerchiamo di sviluppare nuove, salde e coraggiose politiche fondate sui principi.
In realtà, vi sono altre cose da temere: come il tradimento, l'imbroglio che ci induce a fare il gioco dei nostri nemici di classe.
Cerchiamo, una volta per tutte, di liberare la nostra famiglia comunista dall'abitudine di giustificare e lasciar sopravviveregli errori del passato.
Come ricorderete, all'inizio degli anni '90, mentre l'Europa era scossa dal cedimento dei paesi socialisti, alcune forze della "sinistra" approvavano la contro-rivoluzione, assegnandole anche un carattere rivoluzionario. Quest'orientamento è penetrato nel movimento comunista e, se così si può dire, lo ha portato ad una completa perdita di significato.
Abbiamo sperimentato simili alterazioni durante gli attacchi contro la Jugoslavia. Durante l'intervento imperialista in Iraq: ci sono stati alcuni partiti appartenenti alla "nostra tradizione", che sono stati sedotti dalla categoria della "lotta contro il terrorismo".
Sappiamo anche che esiste chi si ostina a non accettare il fatto che l'Unione europea sia lo strumento di attacco, sfruttamento e concorrenza di alcuni paesi imperialisti di primo piano...
Non pensiamo che le conseguenze dei timori e atteggiamenti sbagliati sugli sviluppi in Medio Oriente negli ultimi anni siano meno gravi.
L'imperialismo è riuscito a ingannare il campo progressista, utilizzando l'esca della cosiddetta primavera araba.
Cari compagni,
Il Partito Comunista Turco dal 2002, dacché è salito al potere il Partito Giustizia e Sviluppo (AKP), sostiene che questo partito persegue una missione molto speciale. Abbiamo affermato che questo partito è uno dei poteri esecutivi di un'ampia operazione imposta alla Turchia e alla regione dagli Stati Uniti.
La stragrande maggioranza delle forze della "sinistra" in Turchia ha chiesto all'AKP di liquidare la contro-guerriglia e realizzare progressi in termini di democratizzazione. Secondo loro, il problema curdo era in via di risoluzione e l'atteggiamento del Partito Comunista della Turchia nei confronti del partito di governo, puro nazionalismo. Con l'aiuto della pseudo-sinistra, che costantemente usa il gergo della borghesia per incolpare i comunisti, il pubblico è stato ingannato attraverso la presentazione di un attacco reazionario generalizzato e filo-americano alla classe operaia, come un movimento di smilitarizzazione.
In molte occasioni, abbiamo anche visto la nostra gente all'estero ingannarsi circa i veri scopi dell'AKP, che abbiamo sempre cercato di disvelare: abbiamo insistentemente ripetuto che questo partito rappresenta un cavallo di Troia a tutti quelli che credono che l'AKP abbia rotto l'asse con gli Stati Uniti o abbia iniziato a sostenere il popolo arabo e si sia avvicinato alle potenze politiche progressiste dell'America Latina. La lettera aperta inviata quest'anno dal nostro partito al presidente venezuelano Chavez è solo un esempio dei nostri tentativi di spiegare ciò.
Quando solo due anni e mezzo fa, nel nostro Congresso di Istanbul cui molti rappresentanti dei partiti fratelli hanno partecipato, abbiamo dichiarato che la Turchia si stava proiettando verso un periodo "neo-ottomano", alcuni dei nostri compagni dissero che esageravamo la questione.
Eppure, un'anticipazione dello smisurato attacco imperialista di oggi chiamato "primavera araba", veniva allora portato in Turchia con strumenti diversi. Come partito internazionalista, patriottico e rivoluzionario, il TKP cercava di impedire alla Turchia di giocare un ruolo filoamericano in Medio Oriente e Africa. Cercavamo di mettere in guardia le masse operaie e, naturalmente, i nostri amici.
Il Partito Comunista di Turchia non è riuscito a fermare l'equivalente turco di questa operazione, avendo preso pochi voti nelle elezioni politiche che hanno avuto luogo la scorsa estate. Non abbiamo intenzione di abbandonarci alla disperazione per non essere riusciti a fermare un'operazione internazionale perseguita con enormi risorse economiche e politiche, in un periodo in cui le classi lavoratrici sono molto deboli. Abbiamo mantenuto la nostra dignità, siamo stati l'unica forza a resistere dall'inizio a questo processo. Ora, in condizioni di decadenza del nuovo regime, da noi chiamato Seconda Repubblica, stiamo lavorando energicamente per riunire la classe operaia e la gioventù sotto la bandiera del socialismo.
Cari compagni,
Non è mia intenzione lodare il nostro partito, il TKP. Sto cercando di sottolineare che i comunisti dovrebbero essere ben preparati a ciò che gli imperialisti stanno facendo, evitare gli errori e rompere con chi insiste a seguire una linea molto pericolosa.
Il processo che ho citato si è spostato nei paesi arabi. Il TKP, benché rispetti le lotte dei lavoratori arabi, ha apertamente dichiarato fin dall'inizio che il capitale internazionale sta attuando un piano sanguinario nella regione. Mette in guardia i suoi amici e il pubblico sul fatto che gli sviluppi in Medio Oriente e Nord Africa non sono in alcun modo rivoluzionari. Purtroppo ci sono persone a sinistra che consciamente o inconsciamente hanno sostenuto le operazioni imperialiste. Nel mio paese, un partito che pretende di essere rivoluzionario ha confrontato le cosiddette rivoluzioni arabe sostenendo che il movimento in Libia è stato più rivoluzionario per la sua pratica di lotta armata.
Si tratta di inganni mortali e purtroppo questi esempi non si trovano solo in Turchia.
Questi abbagli potrebbero essere conseguenze dell'allontanamento dalla prospettiva del socialismo, dell'incapacità di sganciarsi dal liberismo, della sottovalutazione dei principi ideologici, potrebbero anche essere il risultato delle scelte fatte storicamente fuori dalla tradizione comunista.
In molti paesi del mondo, come vediamo in questo luogo con l'esempio della crescita costante della lotta di classe sotto la guida del Partito Comunista di Grecia, in un periodo in cui gli oppressi hanno iniziato a muoversi e a dare prove della loro volontà di non farsi più sopraffare, c'è la necessità di una tradizione comunista che prenda una posizione coerente contro i governi borghesi, i piani imperialisti e le ideologie reazionarie.
Viva il socialismo!
